After receiving positive feedback for his two concerts in New York City and Los Angeles and the success of his popular record “fukumean,” Gunna is back with an Afrobeat-infused track. Sarz’s “Happiness” featuring Asake and Gunna is an internationally appealing track that speaks positive energy, starkly contrasting the negativity that riddles the world. The exciting collaboration quickly became Nigeria’s No. 1 trending music video on YouTube.

Gunna’s normally-quiet Instagram was flooded with positive reactions once he posted the clip for his newest collaboration. His post was captioned, “Gunna Wun Amapiano??! [Out now] [AfroWunna].” On the track, he melodically raps, “Got your birthstone, you’re an earth tone/ I miss you, I need you bad, baby come home/ You want me to make it happen, baby I know/ You want me to keep you happy, baby I know.”

When speaking on the track, the producer of Drake’s “One Dance,” Sarz, told COMPLEX, “Collaborating with Asake and Gunna allowed us to tastefully blend genres, creating a rhythmic masterpiece. He’s taking it global.” While another said, “Walking example of when the world tries to tear you down and you continue shining your light successfully and staying ambitious.”

Famous Nigerian recording artist Asake claimed, “A lot of people pay so much for happiness while others get it for free. Creating a song that could fit in both worlds was magical. I’m glad I teamed up with Sarz and Gunna to make this a reality.”

Kodak Black Pleaded Not Guilty To Gun Charge And Drug Possession

  /  12.12.2023

On Wednesday (Dec. 6), Kodak Black was arrested in Plantation, Florida, after authorities allegedly found the rapper in his Bentley. The rapper’s car blocked a road at the time, and his taillights were on. The Florida-bred emcee has now pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including a gun charge, cocaine possession, evidence tampering and the improper stopping of a vehicle.

Kodak is currently out of jail on bond and has requested a trial by jury. It is believedthat he had attempted to eat the cocaine to hide it from the cops. He may not leave Broward County and must speak with his Pretrial Services Officer twice weekly. Also, Kodak is prohibited from consuming alcohol or illegal substances before his trial starts.

This arrest follows a previous incident in July 2022, where Kodak was reportedly apprehended with over 30 Oxycodone pills and $75,000 in cash in his vehicle. He was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. However, the “No Flockin'” hitmaker was released on a $75,000 bond.

Kodak’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, has been actively seeking the dismissal of the case, alleging a “coordinated takedown” of the artist by Broward County officials. The legal professional argued that the pills were identified as Tylenol upon testing. Furthermore, he accused FBI Special Agent James Mitchell of misconduct and bias in handling the Broward County native’s dispute.

In August, Kodak was rushed to the emergency room of Broward Health Hospital after an apparent overdose. The incident took place months removed from a judge ordering him to do a 30-day rehab for being absent for a drug test.

Artists and media pundits have shared their concerns over the young emcee’s health this year. Joe Budden, Ray J and others have all spoken out about Kodak’s recent behavior. Donald Trump famously pardoned Kodak at the end of his presidency.

Nicki Minaj Announces Deluxe Version Of 'Pink Friday 2'

  /  12.12.2023

Friday (Dec. 8), Nicki Minaj returned with her long-awaited LP, Pink Friday 2. The album boasted A-list features from artists like Future, Lil Wayne, Drake, J. Cole, Lil Uzi Vert, Tate Kobang and more.

The sample-heavy album has received an outpour of positive reviews from Barbz and casual music fans alike. The talented Queens, New York-bred emcee took to Twitter to respond to some of the comments discussing her first album in over five years before teasing a deluxe version coming soon.

While detailing her experience working with J. Cole, she said, “Hey, thank you for posting. This man, J. Cole, had a two-hour talk with me. Two. Two!!!! I didn’t realize I was sitting on a therapist’s couch, but two days later, I heard this verse [and] couldn’t stop crying. The end.” She continued, “After having [Papa Bear], I couldn’t wait for the day he’d smile [at] me. First smile? It was one day when I blew a kiss to him. I said, ‘Papa mmuuuaahhhhh!!!!’ Then? Time froze. Froze. He smiled? He smiled. At Me? Looking directly into my eyes? Yes.”

She finished the post writing, “Anyway, Cole… It’s been a long time, but the Barbz welcome you with open arms to [Gag City]. We appreciate you. We hope you stay.”

While detailing her new popular song with Lil Uzi Vert, she shared, “This is mad funny [because] that was the song I wrote in five [minutes] one day for Call Of Duty. Once I kept it for my album, I still didn’t even know if it made sense on [Pink Friday 2]. I didn’t want to send it to Uzi [because] I thought [they]’d be over it. Instead, [they were] like this hard [as f**k]! Uzicito.”

Shortly after, the rap legend teased her new project, “Next week, [Gag City] welcomes a new edition every day beginning Monday or Tuesday. Every day until Friday, you’ll get an additional song that completes my favorite body of work to date. Four more songs. Two names on a very important song rhyme with Schmechia Schmole & Schmonica [Gag City] [Pink Friday 2]. What’s your current three top [favorites]?”

TY DOLLAR SIGNS.

TY DOLLAR SIGNS.

  /  12.10.2023

Sunday (Dec. 10) morning, Ty Dolla Sign  posted a screenshot of a text on Instagram that seemingly announced a rave for his new collaborative album with Kanye West. The text reads, “¥$ VULTURES RAVE MIAMI SAW GRASS MILLS 12 12 12 AM.” Fans are interpreting this an announcement for the highly anticipated album on Dec. 12.

High-profile fans like Doe Boy and Ant Clemons liked or commented on the captionless Instagram post, sharing their excitement for the forthcoming event. This screenshot comes on the heels of the “Or Nah (Remix)” artist posting ahandwritten album tracklist and a video of West listening to a snippet that featured a Backstreet Boys sample was recently in the news after Taylor Swift mentioned how his shocking verse on The Life of Pablo standout, “Famous,” affected her personally. Swift described the incident to TIME as a “fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar.”

The backlash led Swift to retreat from the public, she claimed. “I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls… I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard,” the singer shared.

West and Ty Dolla made noise once the album was announced. On Friday, Oct. 13, Billboard shared that sources close to the artists have confirmed that they “will make a decision soon.” The album was supposedly planned for an Oct. 13 release but has since been delayed.

Several major labels have declined to work with Ye due to his antisemitic tirades from last year, creating an opportunity for smaller platforms to step in and boost their traffic if they can secure the partnership.

Young Thug's RICO Trial On Pause Until January 2024: "It Might Be More Prudent To Recess"

  /  12.12.2023

The trial involving Young Thug and his co-defendants in the YSL RICO case has been delayed until next year following the stabbing of defendant Shannon Stillwell in Fulton County Jail.

Stillwell, recovering from multiple stab wounds, was assaulted by inmate Willie Brown, according to Fox 5 News. The latter was arrested in July 2020 on various charges, including murder. At the time of reporting, the cause of the altercation is unknown.

Fulton County Superior Court Chief Judge Ural Glanville dismissed the jury on Monday (Dec. 11), citing Stillwell’s medical issue. Today (Dec. 12), he informed them that due to the time required to resolve the issue, the trial would be adjourned for the holidays, reconvening on Jan. 2.

Stillwell’s condition is reportedly stable, and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office stated he’ll be “placed appropriately” in the jail.

The legal proceedings began last month after approximately 10 months of jury selection and are part of a larger racketeering conspiracy case. Meanwhile, Thug is accused of leading the alleged Young Slime Life gang, implicated in various crimes over a decade.

Earlier this year, defense attorneys criticized the use of rap lyrics as evidence and reliance on jailhouse informants. Yak Gotti’s legal counsel, Doug Weinstein, explained, “They’re going to look at these lyrics and instantly say they are guilty. They are not going to look at the evidence that’s actually probative of their guilt once these lyrics get in front of them.”

On the other hand, prosecutors maintain that Thug’s music career and social media presence were used to promote the gang’s activities. “The question is not rap lyrics. The question is gang lyrics,” said Mike Carlson. “These are party admissions. They happen to come in the form of lyrics.”

In June, Thug dropped his latest album, BUSINESS IS BUSINESS. The project boasted guest appearances from 21 Savage, Lil Gotit, BSlime, and Nate Ruess from Fun, and of The Format.
